What I Ate Wednesday {7.1.15}

Here's what I ate today! Jonathan & I attempted a juice detox yesterday...I couldn't even last one day (whyyyy do I do these things to myself?!) Maybe it's because I'm still breastfeeding, or maybe I'm just weak but I cannot live without solid food in my life!! I did gain about 4-5lbs over Christmas from over-indulging in all the festive treats but I'm sure that within about a week or two of eating normal again I will be back to my regular weight. I just can't diet...it's too hard for me! I love food too much :)

So my breakfast was the same as always. I was tempted to drink a green juice but love the way oats fill me up till lunchtime! I had porridge with almond milk, 1/2 banana, blueberries & cinnamon with a black coffee.

I had a little snack while the children were eating their lunch. (I've gotten into the habit of eating after they go down for their nap as we've been pushing naptime forward a little bit.) I had a strawberry Muller Light Fruitopolis yoghurt & a huge mandarin!

Lunch was the same as most days except we had limited cherry tomatoes left...ha ha ha! This is the New York Company multiseed bagel with smoked applewood ham & organic mature cheddar. Soooo good!

After lunch I had a black coffee (Nespresso Fortissio Lungo).

Dinner was ham & cheese tortelloni with tomato and basil sauce and grated parmesan on top. Not very exciting or difficult to make but my heart's not really in cooking at the moment. I need to get back into it!

For "dessert" I had another coffee (Linizio Lungo) with a few caramel digestives! I was torn between drinking one of the smoothies from our box of juices (which I'm feeling rather guilty about going to waste, though Jonathan is still drinking them!) but my sweet tooth took over. How do you like my cup?!

That's it! I am also currently still chugging my water (about 1.5litres down, trying to hit the 2L mark!). What did you eat today?

  4. Don't beat yourself up over not doing the juice thing.....a true diet is one that you enjoy....everything in moderation! Just use them as snacks or to drink randomly until they are gone! :) I am drinking my gallon of water. I had greek yogurt with cinnamon. PS I got the idea to add cinnamon after reading your blog. AMAZING! Thank you!!!

  6. Hey Anna, I just found a book about having juice as a diet or a detox for 7 days. It's called 7lbs in 7 days. It's not just about the juicing and the recipes, the guy who wrote it really motivates you and makes you understand why people usually can't finish a diet or whatever it is. I really think you should read it if you have time, it really inspired me to do it. Almost finished the book in one day because it was so good. I really think you should try again, I believe you and Jofee can finish it! :) Have a good night! xoxo

  9. I'm with you Anna - I just eat normally (I think I can remember how!) and within a couple weeks the holiday weight gain usually goes away. I do concentrate more on drinking water and staying active. I also get back to non-holiday! portion sizes...

    I LOVE the cup!

  13. I love the message from your cup <3 it is definitely the best summary of all diets, haha:) Don't force yourself to dieting. You have nothing to feel guilty about. Just try to stay away from or limit some products and everything will be O.K.

  14. Hi Anna! I just bought my husband a nespresso machine for Christmas and his lungo coffees never look as full as yours. Do you have a tiny cup or use two capsules at a time?

    1. I would also like to know the answer to this too! I have had Nespresso machines for years, and the pod vs. cup size thing still always perplexes me haha

  16. I had a good 4-5lbs on because of the holidays, too. I'm in that "eat normally" part now, which is difficult. Every time I see your Nespresso drinks I feel like I need to buy one. I just can't help but feel like I'm missing out on all this fantastic coffee.. I need to drink more water, thank you for the reminder ;D

  18. Totally agree with you where chugging down water is concerned. I find that it keeps my energy levels up and kinda helps fake the feeling of fullness a little bit - helps me not to pick/nibble at things all day! Need to get back into it!

  20. I tried doing the J.J. Smith 10-Day Green Smoothie Cleanse and only made it 2 days. It's tough especially in the winter. I want something warm to eat, not a cold smoothie. Maybe it's worth trying it again in the Spring.

Love your "Keep calm and eat cupcakes" mug, super cute! :)

  22. I tried to cleanse via juice in November. All you need is to eat smart and eat right portions like it looks you do. I love the mug, I am a chocoholic but I am not eating sugar right now for a fast :/ I love the new format of the blog. Love from the Baltimore area!! Hope you can visit soon.

  23. The only weight you lose with Juice cleanses like that is water weight which you gain right back anyway. Since you already eat very sensibly and healthfully it's probably for the best you just went back to that vs the cleanse. Don't worry about it :)

  32. Keep the juices frozen or drink one at lunch or instead of the yogurt! I've been having 'detox water' which is just any water with lime and cucumber - it really makes a difference and you feel so much better after all the Christmas food

  38. I always enjoy reading your `what i ate` posts, i am the same when it comes to oatmeal,i eat it almost every day and i add banana, cinnamon, hazelnuts and raisins in mine it`s sooo good! And don`t worry about the juice detox, as a nutritionist i can tell you it`s not all that good like many think it is, especially if you are breastfeeding-in fact, you need around 500 calories plus in this period. Anyways, i love that you are blogging so often now! xx

  39. Maybe you can't diet because you don't have anything to lose! But seriously I don't know how anyone can live from juicing...

  47. Since reading these What I Ate Weds, I've actually found myself snacking on some cookies and tea at the end of my day too. It's a good way to get in a dessert, but restricting myself to only three cookies (of any size!). I do love that mug too!

  51. I am completely obsessed with pomegranates at the moment. Like, I cannot get enough of them. And I love slicing them open and picking out those glorious little seeds almost as much as I enjoy eating them. Weird, I know. But to me, it's such a fun process. Yep . . . I do believe I have a pomegranate problem. :)

  52. I've been on the green juice lately too, not to diet or loose weight (which, Anna you REALLY don't need to do!), I've been having half a juice with my breakfast and the other half when I get home from work. I'm drinking the green juice to get all those extra nutrients and vitamins into my body I wouldn't usually get - I'm not going to sit chomping on spinach and avocado when I can have wraps and cake now am I? After a week I've already noticed a big difference in my skin and my overall energy levels! So don't give up on the juices, just incorporate them in to your daily diet :) You won't feel bad for not drinking them and you will only benefit from the extra vitamins and minerals!
