Baking Gingerbread!

I've been slacking on the blog lately...and I apologise for that! But sometimes there just aren't enough hours in the day for everything I want to fit in. I feel like this month has been crazy and flown by! I wake up, work out, eat breakfast, spend most of the day distractedly editing videos whilst also trying to fit in some kind of crafts or fun activity time with the kids, tidy up after them, feed them, panic online shop for Christmas presents, edit some more, cook/eat dinner, clean up, bathe the kids and put them to bed. By the end of the day I'm exhausted...and I still feel like I have 10000 things left to do! I am dreading going to the post office tomorrow as I know it's going to be completely manic! And I also have to somehow squeeze in filming a Christmas baking video *insert monkey covering eyes emoji here*

Anyhow, enough complaining before you guys think I'm an ungrateful cow...ha ha ha! I swear I'm not! I love my blog & writing to you guys so I will always try and make time for that. AND I'm fully aware that there are lots of people out there who are far busier than me & probably a lot more successful at getting it all done on time too. (Says the girl who still hasn't managed to post ONE Christmas card o.O) This outfit is verrrry simple and not anything you haven't seen before but I do love this Abercrombie Christmas jumper which I bought last year from ASOS! It's so soft! My jeans are by GAP the 1969 Always Skinny - these are my proper pre-pregnancy jeans that only fit me comfortably if I'm being really good workout & diet-wise! I instantly regretted wearing them as we ate a roast chicken dinner today. Oops.

(yes, that is a hairbrush in our ice-maker...thank you Eduardo)

Today's Christmas craft was baking Christmas cookies! Actually these are what my mum called plätzchen, which I think is basically the German for gingerbread (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!). One of my favourite childhood memories is of baking these with my mum, a tradition that she carried on from when she was little. Just to clarify, my mum is Irish but her mother is German so that's why she called them plätzchen! Here's a sneaky Throwback Thursday of me about a year older than Emilia doing the exact same thing as her!

As you can tell Emilia was pretty excited about baking cookies :) She also did a great job decorating them though I very nearly sustained a minor injury while reaching for the box of sprinkles on the top shelf of our kitchen cupboards. (Think 25 different tubes of sprinkles crashing on top of me and smashing all over the floor...yeah. Baking with kids is easy, baking with idiots such as myself not so much.)

Here's today's vlogmas episode if you haven't already watched it! It involves me having a heart to heart with you guys, cooking breakfast, working out, showing what I ate that day, bathing the kids and getting weird with some googly eyes. If that sounds like something you'd enjoy check it out!

  2. How cute! Is there a picture like these of your mom baking treats when she was a little girl? That would be cute to see (and also your Oma?)

  3. I love your blog post but don't always get to read them all. Your cooking videos are always so nice to watch as well. When Emilia helps you in the kitchen I find it the most cutest thing ever. Not to mention I wish I could taste everything you bake. I really thought you would publish a baking cook book! Anyway, thanks for sharing with us. Hope you have a great weekend.

  8. Love your blog. Love your vlogs. Love your family. I have been going to Hamburg, Germany for 8 years in a row (don't even ask). Gingerbread is lebkuchen....pronounced like: leeb-cook-in. That's pretty much all the German I know...i.e. got lebkuchen everyday.

  11. Plätzchen aren't really gingerbread, in Germany gingerbread is called 'Lebkuchen'. Here in Germany nearly every Christmas cookie can be called Plätzchen. So you're not 100% wrong! :)
Love you and your videos and your blog posts ❤️ Greetings from Germany and merry Christmas!

  12. like kaczuszka explained: "Plätzchen" are all kind of cookies. Gingerbread in german would be "Lebkuchen"

  14. Plätzchen are any type of Christmas cookies. We just call them Plätzchen instead of Christmas cookies :)
Gingerbread is called "Lebkuchen" here in Germany - in case you're interested ;-)

  20. Anna your baking videos always put a smile on my face. I just made some gingerbread cookies myself today and I'm attempting to make a house tomorrow though it'll probably fail. Emilia looks so please with herself in that photo. I wish I could try one! Gosh you had such lovely cheekbones from such a young age and what a cute little apron. Old photos are so precious! X

  23. Hi Anna! I loved your video today. I always cant get over how well behaved your babies are at the table .....mine are always up and down up and down like 2 little monkeys and it drives me insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also Im glad you mentioned that in your video about not sharing every aspect of your life. I just started blogging again after a 2 year hiatus and started youtube again because years ago people made me feel like i didnt share everything or i hid stuff. Just becuase you put parts of your life....or a lot of your life out there doesnt me you have some legal requirement to tell the whole world everything that is private about your life. Thats no ones business and you DO NOT owe people anything. Poeple are lucky you share so much with them. I hold back alot when blogging or on youtube becuase i get afraid of things i may share. But thats my choice whether to share or not.

And again you are beautiful either way .....I always love your videos and blog and because we lost are dads around the same time I love when you post about your dad. It makes me feel like my feelings are real but I am not alone because there are so many people grieving the loss of a parent.

God Bless you and your family xoxxo

  24. I think every working Mum feels exactly the same... you can't fit enough in to your day, you feel guilty because you feel you are not giving your kids enough of your time, you are trying to be everything for everybody. You are doing a fantastic job, you have wonderful children to show for it. No-one is perfect, that would be boring x
