Its such a struggle being on a small island! I think anybody in the creative industry will go through this, a feeling of being taken for granted or &quot;used&quot; as you said and that sucks. <br /><br />I personally think you get to a point in your career when you have to stop doing things for free, and start becoming more tough and business-minded! If your portfolio is strong enough and you have experience you definitely should start turning people down if they don&#39;t want to pay you. <br /><br />Be smart about it, and value your work and your talents. I&#39;m starting my makeup career and yours advices work for me, too.<br /><br />I work hard, since early in the morning until late in the evening, I try to have as many experiences as possible, I don&#39;t have problems with no paid jobs because I know that I need to learn and make contacts.... but sometimes I felt used.
